ENGLISH VERSION
1) Burden Of Grief is a german thrash band. Can you explain in a few words, what your texts are about? Since the very beginning our singer Mike is responsible for all our lyrics. After he got inspired mainly by books and movies in the past his lyrics become more and more realistic and personal. Many of the new songs are about the problems of the modern society. The human society has built up a system during the last century that controls us even more than we can control the system. You just have to open the daily newspaper or watch the news in TV and you got more inspiration that you really want to have. And I think George Bush is a perfect inspiration if you wanna write aggressive lyrics, ha, ha,.. 2) Would you say, that there are bands who mostly affected your music? Since the beginning we have always tried not to restrict ourselves musically. We have always tried to combine the power and aggression of death and thrash metal with melodies and feelings of more classic heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica. Since then we were often compared to the so-called „Gothenburg“ melodic death style, but I rather think that we have mostly the same influences than these bands from Sweden have. 3) Where was the biggest show you ever played? Looking back I would say that our show at Summer Breeze Open Air back in 2002 was the biggest show we’ve ever played. It was a huge festival with bands like Nightwish, Paradise Lost and Dimmu Borgir headlining. It was not only our biggest show but also one of out absolutely greatest shows. 4) Have you ever played in other bands? No, for myself I have to say that BURDEN OF GRIEF is my very first band. Also for our singer Mike. Together with him I’ve started the band 13 years ago. But the other guys in BURDEN OF GRIEF are playing in some other bands like Gutlock and Twilight Prophecies... 5) And how would you describe your kind of music? I’d say it’s a combination of melodic and groovy thrash and death metal with influences of classic heavy metal as well as more modern metal. In the beginning our songs were much more influenced by the so-called “Gothenburg style”. But I think, in the last years we’ve added a lot of different aspects to our music, that come along with every new band-member who joined the band. Our new drummer Robb for example is much more into modern metal like Godsmack and Disturbed, while his predecessor Carsten was a huge Emperor-fan. 6) Who is mainly responsible for writing and compositions in the band? The songwriting and arrangements have always been a cooperation of all bandmembers. But I would say that 90% of all riffs of “Death End Road” are writting by myself. 7) What are your personal emotions about the upcoming album? We’ve just started the songwriting for the next record and I’m really looking forward to it, because we have finally found a line-up that really can work in a friendly and positive disposition. In the past we always had some personal troubles during the songwriting that also had in impact to the music. The upcoming record will be the first BURDEN OF GRIEF album written by one and the same line-up.... 8) Have you ever done anything else but music? Of course we all do have regular day jobs. We try to rehearse once per week, except when we play many shows on weekends. I think that we will record our next album in fall of 2008. We are really lazy songwriter and we do need a little bit the pressure to know that we’ve got only a few months until the studio awaits us, ha, ha.. 9) So what are your plans for the future, will you guys come on tour? Since the beginning we have tried to play as many shows as possible, because I’m convinced that a metal-band can only get successful by playing live. While we have concentrated our live-efforts in the early years mostly on Germany, we’re trying more and more to get shows Europe-wide. We’ve got some really interesting tour-offers in the past, but unfortunately we couldn’t realize them due to lack of time. But this year we have finally played shows in Slovakia, as well as in Slovenia (Metalcamp), Switzerland and even Estonia (Hard Rock Laager Open Air). But we are really, really looking forward to the next year, because we are planning to play shows in Germany, Austria, Czech and even France. 10) Few words for french.... I hope you guys like our album. If you still don’t know it, just check it out. We are looking forward to coming back to France again in 2008. So watch out...
