Les groupes de White Metal jouissent la plupart du temps d'une réputation qui porte à sourire. Le concept en lui-même est assez loin des clichés en vigueur. Sur un air de musique acidulée, Mad Max fait partie de cette catégorie. 1. Bonjour, tout d’abord comment allez-vous ?
Tout est super cool avec la troupe à Mad Max avec beaucoup de shows prévus pour cette année ! Et bien plus pour l’avenir.
2. Tout d’abord, félicitations pour « White Sands » ! Je l’adore ! Est-ce que tout le monde partage mon avis ?
Après notre E.P acoustique “In White”, nous voulions montrer à tout le monde que nous étions toujours un groupe de rock- donc “White Sands” sonne comme nous pensons que cela doit sonner en live, purement rock, sans clavier et avec juste deux guitares!
3. Que signifie « White Sands » ?
« White Sands » n’est pas quelque chose de réel. Beaucoup d’évènements de la bible, que nous affectionnons particulièrement se passent dans le désert, donc le sable (sands) est issu de là. Le blanc (white) correspond au style de Mad Max qui se veut un groupe de rock chrétien.
4. Peux-tu me dire ce à quoi la cover ressemble vraiment ?
L’artwork de la cover mélange le logo de Mad Max avec le thème du sable, les flammes sont l’emblème du côté heavy de l’album.
5. Pourquoi les retours sur cet album ont été aussi longs ? Etes-vous satisfaits ?
« White Sands » est exactement l’album que nous souhaitions réaliser à ce moment précis de la carrière du groupe. Mad Max a toujours été un groupe de scène, pas l’un de ces nombreux projets studios. C’est sympa d’écrire te d’enregistrer un album, mais la chose la plus importante pour nous est de jouer pour nos fans à travers le monde entier où cela est possible. Nous sommes très satisfaits de l’album et les chansons marchent aussi très bien en live.
6. Pourquoi Mad Max a stoppé sa carrière pendant 12 ans ?
Dans la fin des années 80, début des années 90, nous avons beaucoup de soucis avec notre maison de disques, et cela a débouché sur beaucoup d’incompréhensions au sein du groupe. Notre chanteur Michael a donc décidé de commencer un nouveau groupe qui se nommait Casanova. Nous sommes tous heureux aujourd’hui que Mad Max soit revenu à son identité originelle après toutes ces années. Mad Max est une famille et travaille seulement dans cette configuration là.
7. Quelles sont les nouvelles depuis 1999 ?
Après le split de Mad Max, nous avons tous intégré différents projets. Michael a fait beaucoup de choses avec Casanova, Axel a trouvé Jaded Heart et j’ai rejoint un groupe dénommé Tanner où j’ai fait du Bon Jovi avec des paroles en allemand. De plus, Michael est un producteur très renommé et un parolier pour beaucoup de groupes internationaux.
8. Mad Max est basé sur un concept de religion. Vivez-vous une vie très ancrée dans la religion ? Etes-vous absolument croyant ?
Mad Max est un groupe chrétien, mais cela ne veut pas dire que nous apportons la bonne parole auprès des gens ; nous vivons une vie tout à fait normale et nous sommes des gars tout à fait simples.
9. Quel serait à l’avenir pour vous le parfait package en live ?
Nous sommes très heureux de ce que nous faisons – quatre potes rockers voguant sur la Terre entière – nous essayons de faire un maximum de shows et d’enregistrer la musique que nous chérissons !
10. Comment se sont passés vos concerts cette année et quels sont vos projets pour le futur ?
Nous avons joués sur quelques festivals comme le Rock Of Ages avec MANFRED MANN, BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST, KROKUS et bien d’autres ont suivi comme notre plus grand festival en Angleterre, le Thunderground Festival avec Wig Wam, The Poodles, Brother Firetribe et Human Zoo. Début octobre, nous avons commencé une tournée spéciale – Michael et moi avons fait une tournée européenne avec Pink Cream 69 et Freedom Call où nous avons ouvert le show avec une set-list très spéciale constituée de vieilles te nouvelles chansons de Mad Max. Cela a été une aventure ! En Novembre, nous allons de nouveau tourner avec notre ami Axel Rudi Pell. Le nouvel album de Mad Max est prévu pour Avril/Mai 2008.
11. Que souhaiteriez vous de plus pour Mad Max pour les jours à venir ?
J’adorerais que Mad Max joue dans plusieurs pays dont ceux où nous ne sommes jamais allés comme l’Europe de l’Est et le Japon. Ce serait un rêve qui devient réalité.

1) Hello , how are you doing?
Everything is absolutely cool in the MAD MAX camp with lots of live shows coming up this year! More about that later.
2) First up, congratulations for "White sands". I love it! But what do other people say about it? Does everyone like it?
After our acoustic EP "IN WHITE" we wanted to show everybody that we are still a rock band - so "WHITE SANDS" is all in all how we sound in a live situation - pu re rock - no keyboards - 2 guitars rockin'!
3) Let's talk about your new album. What does the name "White Sands”stand for?
"WHITE SANDS" is no real thing - a lot of the stories in the HOLY BIBLE we really like are happening in the desert - so that's where we took the "sand" from. "White" is still standing for MAD MAX being a christian rockband.
4) What exactly is it the cover?
The coverartwork mixes the MAD MAX cross logo with the sand theme - the flames are standing for the heavier edge of the album.
5) What has the feedback on "Whites sands” been so far? Are you satisfied?
"WHITE SANDS" is exactly the album we wanted to do right now in this period of the band - MAD MAX has always been a live band - not one of these many studio projects - so it's fun to record and write an album, but the main thing for us is to play for our fans all around the world wherever it is possible. We are very satisfied with the album and the songs are working very well live too.
6) Mad Max stopped his carreer during 12 years, why?
In the late 80ies/early 90ies we had a lot of trouble with our record company - this finally led to a lot of misunderstanding in the band and our Singer Michael decided to start a new band called CASANOVA. We are all happy that MAD MAX is now back in the original line up after all these years - MAD MAX is a family band and is only working in this special constellation.
7) Results since 1999?
After MAD MAX split up we all worked in different bands and projects - Michael did a lot of stuff with CASANOVA, Axel founded JADED HEART and I founded a band called TANNER where I did kind of BON JOVI rock with german lyrics. Besides that Michael is a very well known producer and songwriter for lots of international acts.
8) Mad Max is based on Jesus - the only person to lead a sinless life. I guess you want to live such a life as well? But do you absolutely not sin?
MAD MAX is a christian band - but that does not mean that we are preaching the people what to do - we live a normal life and we are pretty normal guys.
9) What would be the perfect package for you in live, if you had free choice?
We are very happy with what we are doing - 4 friends rockin' around the world - we try to play as many shows as we can and record the music we love!
10) What other plans do you have for near future?
Right now we're playing some large summer festivals like the ROCK OF AGES with MANFRED MANN, BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST, KROKUS and many more followed by our very first large festival in the UK, the THUNDERGROUND FESTIVAL with WIG WAM, THE POODLES, BROTHER FIRETRIBE and HUMAN ZOO. Early october we're starting a very special tour - Michael and I will do a european tour with PINK CREAM 69 and FREEDOM CALL where we will open the show with a very special acoustic set with old and new MAD MAX songs. This will be an adventure! In november we will tour again with our good friend AXEL RUDI PELL. The new MAD MAX album is scheduled for april/may 2008.
11) What do you personally wish for the future of the band?
I would love to see MAD MAX play in countries that we never played before like Eastern Europe and Japan. That would be a dream come true.
