DAKRYA est le digne héritier d'un métal symphonique à chanteuse emphatique et classieux. Berçé de voix enjôleuses du beau sexe et de growls furieux, venez découvrir ces Grecs qui cultivent une certaine ressemblance avec Septic Flesh. 1. Première question: vous êtes encore inconnus en France, pouvez-vous présenter le groupe et ses influences? Bonjour à tous! Dakrya est un groupe de metal atmosphérique avec une approche théâtrale. Nos influences sont nombreuses mais la plupart provient du néoclassique, du gothique et du black metal en ce qui concerne notre premier album. Le groupe a débuté par un projet acoustique avec des chants féminins jusqu’en 2004, puis mon idée a mûri et j’ai décidé de chercher des musiciens et des chanteurs.
2. Avez-vous eu des difficultés à trouver le bon line-up ou est-ce que tout s’est mis en place normalement?
En fait, ce fut la chose la plus difficile! Trouver les bonnes personnes qui comprendraient, participeraient et travailleraient sur la vision que j’avais de Dakrya. Notre line-up a changé de nombreuses fois jusqu’à Septembre 2005 où George D, notre guitariste nous a rejoint et en un mois, nous avons trouvé Christine et Thomais! J’étais complètement scotchée par leus magnifiques voix et leurs performances. Nous sommes partis au travail et notre entente fut parfaite!
3. “Monumento” est un titre intéressant pour l’album. Est-ce que c’est comme cela, vous-même que vous souhaitez être décrite?
Quand j’ai eu terminé les chansons et leur ordre pour l’album, j’ai voulu trouver un titre qui reflétait le concept de l’album, mais d’une façon personnelle, car les titres ont été écrits en 2003 et 2004 (une période assez difficile de ma vie). Et une nuit, m’est venu le mot “monument” et j’ai dit: “C’est ça!”. J’ai donc appelé l’album “Monumento” (en latin) pour montrer que cela parle du passé et que c’est quelque chose dont on doit se souvenir aujourd’hui.
4. Quel est le concept derrière “Monumento”?
Dans “Monumento”, vous pouvez reconnaître quatre rôles différents au niveau du chant. Il y a Thomas K. (qui participe aux voix déclamatoires), Dagwn du groupe Nethescerial (qui s’occupe des voix brutales), et bien sûr Christina et Thomais qui ont les rôles principaux et les lignes de chant. Ces quatre personnages ont un rôle spécifique et chacun d’entre eux exprime des émotions et pensées différentes. A la base, j’ai voulu montrer dans “Monumento’ différentes formes de solitude, à travers la trahison, l’incompréhension, l’égoïsme, la haine et même l’amour. Un voyage à la découverte de soi. L’âme des Hommes est quelque chose d’extrêmement dur à découvrir et exprimer. Nous ressentons tous dse choses différentes, essayons de nous découvrir et de trouver la signification à cela. Dans cet album, vous trouverez seulement une petite partie de l’âme et de l’esprit de l’Homme, il y a plein d’autres choses encore...
5. Etes-vous de gros fans de musique classique?
Oh oui! J’ai grandi avec la musique classique et je l’étudie depuis l’âge de six ans! J’y ai toujours des découvertes et je dirais même que ça reflète une grande partie de moi-même. Mes compositeurs préférés sont W.A. Mozart, Chopin (c’est un fabuleux pianiste), Mendelssohn et Albinoni.
6. Quel est le processus d’écriture pour Dakrya? Est-ce que vous écrivez les chansons, puis le reste du groupe ajoute sa musique ou est-ce que vous faites tout?
En fait, oui, j’écris les chansons et compose la musique pour Dakrya. Après avoir terminé un titre, je donne les feuilles de musique aux autres musiciens, nous opérons à quelques changements, puis arrangeons les percussions et ajoutons finalement les voix. Je donne la musique avec les paroles à Christina et Thomais, ainsi que quelques instructions en ce qui les concerne, puis elles créent toutes les lignes de chant. Je n’écris pas les ligne de chant pour les chansons, et à la place j’apporte quelques arrangements pour les choeurs et les chants en fond. Christina et Thomais ont beaucoup de talent, et nous adorons travailler sur du nouveau matériel.
7. Dakrya a créé une musique plus accesible à tous au sein de la communauté metal, es-tu d’accord avec cela?
La vérité est que nous faisons juste une musique qui nous plaît. Nous ne choisissons pas notre public. Ce que nous voulons, est que le pubic nous choisisse, nous aime ou nous déteste, peu importe la musique qu’ils ont l’habitude d’écouter. Nous sommes honorés lorsque que quelqu’un nous dit qu’il aime notre musique, et qu’il veut découvrir beaucoup d’autres choses nous concernant, spécialement lorsque cela provient de personnes qui n’écoutent pas de métal!
8. Quel type de vocalises recherchiez-vous lorsque vous avez débuté?
Je voulais deux chants féminins avec des voix différentes et un style propre à chacun afin de donner l’essence théâtrale dont j’ai besoin dans la musique. Par chance, j’ai trouvé la voix rock puissante de Christina et la voix passionnée de soprano de Thomais. Les deux ont de vastes gammes dans leurs voix et cela les aide à créer tant de différentes lignes de chant.
9. Qu’attendez-vous lorsque vous incorporez de nombreuses notes de chant dans votre musique?
Comme je l’ai précédemment dit, seules Christina et Thomais écrivent les lignes de chant. Une voix est un instrument très puissant et deux voix sont plus intenses qu’une seule. Je suis une grosse fan d’opéra et de choeurs, et j’aime vraiment combiner plusieurs voix dans ma musique.
10. Est-ce juste de dire qu’il y a une grosse scène metal en Grèce?
Je ne dirais pas que le metal est le style de musique préféré en Grèce, mais nous avons vraiment un beau panel de metalheads qu grossit. Nous avons de nombreux groupes de styles différents, mais seulement quelques-uns parviennent à exporter leur musique en dehors de nos frontières, en Europe et aux Etats-Unis.
11. Comment vous sentez-vous en live? Il semblerait que Dakrya soit parfait sur scène?
Nous adorons nous produire en live! Nous sommes tous réunis les uns aux autres et avons tant d’énergie sur scène à distribuer au public. Nous ne faisons plus qu’un avec le public et nous aimons vraiment cela. Christina et Thomais ont vraiment une façon unique de communiquer avec chacun. Nous savons que nous avons délivré un show exceptionnel lorsque que le public nous en redemande. Nous travaillons toujours très dur avant un concert, car nous voulons offrir quelque chose de différent et nouveau à ceux qui viennent nous voir.
12. Je pense que le groupe vous prend beaucoup de temps, que faites-vous en dehors? Des loisirs? Un travail?
J’ai aussi un métier. Je travaille sur internet et je suis graphiste pour une compagnie et aussi de façon indépendante. On pourrait que ce job est mon deuxième nom! J’ai beaucoup de loisirs mais la plupart du temps, j’étudie. J’étudie tout et n’importe quoi. J’adore apprendre de nouvelles choses, mais aussi j’aime passer du temps avec mes amis et mon groupe. 13. Y-a t’il vraiment quelque chose que vous souhaiteriez accomplir en tant que chanteuse ou musicienne, qui n’est pas encore arrivé? En tant que musicienne, je souhaiterais faire partager mes pensées le splus profondes au travers de ma musique. Je crois que ce que j’essaie d’accomplir ici, c’est de partager ma vision avec le monde.

Evildead ENGLISH VERSION 1. First question: you are unknown in France can you present the group and your influences?
Hello to all! Dakrya is an atmospheric metal group with a theatrical approach. Our influences are many but mostly coming from Neoclassical, Gothic and Black metal music, as far as it concerns our debut album. The band started out as an acoustic project with female vocals back in 2004 and soon the first idea changed and I started to look further for musicians and singers.
2. Did you have a difficult time finding the right people for DAKRYA, or did everything fall in place from the beginning?
Actually that was the most difficult thing! To find the right people who would understand, work and participate in the “vision” I had for Dakrya. Our line-up changed several times until September 2005 when George D, our lead guitarist joined in and a month later we finally discovered Christina and Thomais! I was completely stunned by their beautiful voices and performing skills. We got to work and our understanding was absolutely perfect!
3. "Monumento" is an interesting title for an album. Is that how you want yourself to be described?
When I had finished the songs and the order of the tracks for the album, I wanted to find a title that could reflect the whole concept of the album, but in a personal way, as almost all the lyrics were written within the years 2003 and 2004 (a quite difficult period of my personal life). So, one night came up the word “monument” and I thought “This is it!” and I named the album “Monumento” (in Latin) to show that it talks about the past and it would be something to remember from now on.
4. What is the concept behind “Monumento”?
In “Monumento” you will be able to recognize 4 different roles in the vocals. There’s Thomas K. (participating and performing all the declamations), Dagwn from Nethescerial band (performing all the brutal vocals) and of course Christina and Thomais who have the main roles and vocal lines. These four characters have a specific role and each one of them expresses different emotions and thoughts. Basically in “Monumento” I try to show all the ways that someone can feel alone, through betrayal, misunderstanding, egoism, hate and even love. A point of realization on the journey for finding thyself. The human soul is something extremely hard to discover and express. We all feel and we feel so many different things, trying to discover ourselves and the meaning of it all. In this album you will find only a small part of the soul and human mind, there are so many more to come…
5. Are you a big fan of the classical music?
Oh, yes I am! I grew up with classical music and I’m still studying it since I was 6 years old! In classical music I always discover something new and I could say it reflects the biggest part of me. My most beloved composers are W.A.Mozart, Chopin (his piano works are extraordinary), Mendelssohn and Albinoni.
6. What is the song-writing process like for DAKRYA? Do you come up with the lyrics and then the rest of the band puts it into the music, or do you actually write music as well?
Actually yes, I write lyrics and also compose the music for Dakrya. After I finish a song, I give the music sheets to the other musicians, most of the times we make a few changes, then arranging the percussions and finally get to the voices. I give the music along with the lyrics to Christina and Thomais and a few instructions as it concerns their parts and they create all the vocal lines. I don’t write the vocal lines for the songs instead of just helping in a few arrangements for the choir parts or backing vocals. Christina and Thomais have a great talent and we love working together on new material.
7. DAKRYA created music that is a bit more accessible to a wider audience of metalheads, you think?
The truth is that we just make music the way we feel it right. We don’t choose our audience (let’s say we play gothic and we want people who likes gothic music or something like that). What we want is the audience to choose us, love us or hate us, no matter what kind of music they prefer to listen to. We’re honoured when someone tells us that our music is good and wants to hear more from us, especially from people who don’t even like “metal”.
8. What vocalists did you look up to when you first started singing?
I wanted two female vocalists with different voices and styles from each other, to give the theatrical essence I needed to the music. Luckily I found the powerful rock voice I wanted in Christina and the passionate soprano voice in Thomais. Both Christina and Thomais have a unique wide range in their voices and this helps them to create so many different vocal lines.
9. For what do you look when you incorporate several tones of singings into your music?
As I said before, I do not write the vocal lines but Christina and Thomais do. A voice is a very powerful instrument and two voices are better and more powerful than one. I am a big fan of opera and choirs and I really love to combine many voices into my music.
10. Is it accurate to say that there is a big metal scene in Greece?
Well, I can’t say that metal is the most beloved genre for Greeks, but definitely we have a lot of metalheads and still growing. We have many metal bands from all kinds of metal, but only a few have managed to get their music outside the borders of Greece, in Europe and USA.
11. How do you feel about playing live? It would seem that DAKRYA music would work out perfect in the live setting? We love performing live! We are all very close to each other and have such energy on stage that draws the audience even closer to us. We become one with our audience and always have a great time! Christina and Thomais have a unique way to perform and communicate with everyone. We know we had a successful show, when we listen to the audience asking for even more! We are working hard every time before a show, because we like to give something different and new to those who come to see us.
12. While the band probably takes a lot of your time, what do you do outside of the band? Interests? Do you have a job?
I do have a job. I work as web developer and graphic designer for a company and also as a free-lancer. You could say that “work” is my middle name! I have many interests but mostly I love to study in my free time. Studying about everything and anything. I love to learn things unknown to me, but also I like to hang out with my band mates and friends.
13. Is there something that you really want to accomplish as a singer or as a musician that hasn't happened yet?
As a musician I want to share my deeper thoughts through my music. I guess what I’m trying to accomplish here, is to share my vision with the world.
